Making This Conservation Vision a Reality

The Mayne Island Conservancy and American Friends of Canadian Land Trusts have a written agreement with Jon, Roger and Howard to allow us to purchase St. John Point and permanently preserve it for public benefit. In order to make this dream a reality our two organizations are leading a campaign to raise $4.3 million CAD. This amount will not only acquire the property for far less than the current list price of $7.5 million but will also provide funds for the long-term management of St. John Point and the costs associated with completing this complex cross-border conservation transaction. This truly is a cross-border effort: for the benefit of Mayne Islanders, residents of the Salish Sea and the seven million people who live and work in the heart of the beautiful Pacific North-West.  We invite you to be part of the effort to achieve the dream of permanently protecting this natural jewel.

St. John Point

Your generous pledge is essential for securing enough time for the campaign to reach donors in a wider geographic area and obtain commitments from government agencies, foundations, corporations and partnering environmental organizations from Canada and the U.S. The initial response from key funding partners has been very positive.

People like you who love Mayne Island, the Gulf Islands generally and the Salish Sea ecosystem have a critical role in raising the funds to match the support we are seeking from government, foundations and corporations. Please consider joining the effort to protect St. John Point by making a pledge or contribution.

The purchase MUST close by the end of 2017.

Once the full $4.3 million is pledged, we can start negotiations with the ultimate title-holders: one or more national-scale charitable land trusts. Let’s raise the full $4.3 million before the end of September, 2017!

Be assured that the Mayne Island Conservancy Society, American Friends and partners will protect St. John Point in perpetuity using all feasible legal means so that it will be treasured for generations to come.

With a pledge towards the purchase and protection of St. John Point from future development you will be part of a wonderful acquisition for the community and for all who visit Mayne Island. Your support will also be a critical step towards protecting the threatened Coastal Douglas Fir ecosystems and endangered plants and animals that depend on that environment.

What a grand way to celebrate Canada’s 150th!
